Are you struggling to navigate the complex world of special education?
Do you need help determining if a Special Education Advocate is necessary? The IEP Guru offers a complimentary 20-minute consultation to listen to your concerns, explain how our advocates can specifically assist you, and outline how we would work together throughout the process. From there, it is your decision without any pressure from us. Schedule your free consultation today to take the first step toward ensuring your child receives the education they deserve.
OBSERVATION: for clients in the greater Atlanta area. The advocate schedules a time with your child's school to perform an observation. During the observation, the advocate focuses on the student's behaviors, the environment, effective and ineffective teaching strategies, and the amount of support the student requires, among other factors.

-
An observation is recommended when the IEP team is struggling to develop specially designed instruction that is effective for the student.

ADVISEMENT: conducted virtually, the advocate addresses a range of topics, including: qualifying for Special Education Services, Psycho-Educational Evaluations, the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), Individualized Education Programs/Plans (IEPs), Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs), 504 Accommodation Plans, IEP goals, Accommodations, and Modifications.

-
Recommended for experienced parents who require support in a specific situation or area.

CONSULTATION: conducted virtually, the advocate can educate parents about Special Education laws and processes, review records, help draft letters/communications between parents and school, write effective goals, prepare parents for meetings, and review documents before the parent signs. However, there is no direct communication or interaction between the advocate and the school.

-
Recommended for those who are comfortable communicating and interacting with the school directly but need support in preparing and being fully aware of their options.

DIRECT ADVOCACY: full service – all of the above, plus the advocate communicates directly with the school/district, attends meetings (Eligibility, IEP, 504, Manifestation, Transition, Parent-Teacher conferences) with the parent (in-person or virtually depending on the county), researches districts, schools, placement options, etc.; assists to de-escalate contentious relationships between parents and educators, helps parents enforce their rights through the preparation and filing of complaints with the state Board of Education and the Office of Civil Rights, and provides referrals to outside resources as necessary.

-
Recommended for parents new to Special Education, parents having difficulty getting their child’s needs met, parents who have experienced hostility from the school, or parents who feel more comfortable being fully supported throughout their child’s education journey.
“There’s no standard student. Every child has talents, passions, and the potential to be amazing.”

WHAT PARENTS SAY

KELLY A, PARENT
I cannot express the level of relief that comes with having an advocate and expert look at your child’s IEP and sit beside you at an IEP meeting. To have someone there whose only agenda is helping to achieve an IEP that serves the best interest of your child.
